The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me because the LORD has annointed Me to preach good news to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken hearted; to proclaim freedom to the captives and the opening of the prisons to those who are captive; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD and the day of vengance of our God; to comfort all those who mourn; to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness!

6 - The Six Thousand Years appointed to man

Chapter 6 – Man

.

The Six Thousand Years appointed to Man

.

“But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”[1]

.

The Lord does not say a thousand years is as one day, because heaven is some type of giant planet that rotates once every thousand years. The Lord dwells in eternity and time is not a factor in heaven. He sees yesterday, today and tomorrow all at once dwelling outside the bounds of time. God is not held down by the forces of gravity, He is not enclosed within any amount of space, and He in no way is bound by time.

.

So why would God’s word say, “That with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”? The reason is that there are hidden parallels throughout the bible within both text and stories where days are used; but they can prophetically be applied to a thousand years.

.

One example of one holding the meaning of one thousand can be found in the original Hebrew letters of the opening verse of the Bible. This famous verse reads in English, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”[2] Read in the original Hebrew, the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, Aleph, appears six times. This letter Aleph holds the numerical value of one and symbolizes each one of the six thousand years appointed to man.

.

Every number, word and even letter holds special prophetic meaning throughout the bible, nothing is out of place and everything holds meaning. It is no accident that there are six Aleph’s in the opening verse of the Bible. It is not Kosher to use the word coincidence in the Hebrew language. In fact, in Hebrew there is no such word, so let’s just call them God-incidences.

.

Another example of this God-incidence regarding this six thousand year history for man is found in the book of Revelation. The phrase “thousand years” is used six times in the first seven verses of Revelation chapter 20. “And bound him for a 1thousand years… until the 2thousand years were completed… and reigned with Christ for a 3thousand years… until the 4thousand years were completed… and will reign with Him for a 5thousand years… and when the 6thousand years were completed.”[3]

.

As we begin this chapter, let me first say, that nowhere in the bible does it say. Man has been appointed six thousand years or that Jesus will return in two thousand years. What we are going to find as we examine stories and text is that in God’s word, one day can prophetically mean one thousand years.

.

Six Days You Shall Labor

.

Man was created on the sixth day, symbolizing the amount of time He would rule over the earth. On this sixth day of creation, “God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule the fish… the birds… over the cattle and over all the earth.”[4] Man was given dominion over the earth.

.

Twenty five hundred years into the history of man. God’s own finger etched in stone His Ten Commandments. The fourth commandment given by God, says, “Six days you shall labor and do all your work.”[5] These six days represent six thousand years in which man is to labor and do all his work. Then just as the Lord rested from all His work on the seventh day so man will enter the millennial rest of Jesus in the seventh millennia.

.

The writer of Hebrews confirms this idea and thought when he wrote; “There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.”[6] The writer of Hebrews beautifully describes the parallels of those who came out of Egypt yet failed to enter the rest of God in the promise land. He continues in his writing saying, “For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall through following the same examples of disobedience.”[7]

.

Not everyone will enter this thousand year rest of Christ, “For we who have believed enter that rest.”[8] Those who traveled with Moses in the wilderness missed out on His promised rest. “Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.”[9]

.

Six Thousand Years of Man Hidden in Stories

.

It begins in the book of Genesis and the story of the Flood. The Bible says, “Noah was six hundred years old when the flood came upon the earth.”[10] These six hundred years correspond to the six thousand years of man. And as the flood brought destruction to the wicked to will the return of the Lord. Remember Jesus said, “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.”[11] Noah’s days were six hundred and man’s are six thousand years.

.

Another story containing this theme of six is the story of Jericho. We see that God commanded “all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do this for six days.”[12] Then the Lord commanded that on the seventh day that “they will make a long blast with the ram’s horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout.”[13] Paul wrote about the return of the Lord, “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised.”[14] He also wrote, “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.”[15]

.

At the end of man’s six thousand reign on earth, there will be a loud trumpet blast and those who died in Christ will be caught up to heaven. There in heaven we will see Jesus glorified with “His face… like the sun shining in its strength.”[16] We get a preview of this in the story of the transfiguration. “And six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and brought them up to a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.”[17]

.

Please notice again, it is after six days. The Psalmist confirms this prophetic day being like a thousand years in Psalms 90:4. Also notice that Jesus takes His disciple to a high mountain. The high mountain is a reference to heaven.[18] And also notice that Jesus face shines like the sun just like out account in Revelation.

.

The Lamb of God

.

The Gospel of John contains a story beginning in the first chapter and continuing into the second chapter that gives us a prophetic history. This prophetic history has been hidden before our very eyes. To see the prophetic parallels you must first understand that a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like a day.[19]

.

The encoded story begins in John 1:29 which says; “The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” So if it is the next day, what day is it? It would be the second day, it’s not the first day, and it’s the “next day”. So being the second day would represent two thousand years after Adam (man) was created. This would take us to the time of Abraham.

.

In Genesis 22 there is recorded the story of the sacrifice of Isaac. In the story, Isaac asks his father where the sacrifice is for the Lord; and Abraham replies, “God will provide for Himself the lamb.”[20] Once the Lord stops the sacrifice of Isaac, “Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns.”[21] Please note it was not a lamb caught in the thicket but a ram and a ram represents the substitute sacrifice of the Old Testament. Jesus is the Lamb which God would provide for the sacrifice.

.

It is almost as if Abraham gazed into the future and saw the Lamb of God coming. “And Abraham called the name of the place (Jehovah-Jireh) The LORD Will Provide as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the LORD it will be provided.”[22] I know this may be a stretch for some of you, but stay with me. It is true that Abraham looked into the future and saw the Lamb of God, because Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”[23]

.

So let’s read John 1:29 in prophetic context; “The second day for God or Two thousand years into the history of man, Abraham saw Jesus coming and rejoiced, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” Unreal isn’t it?

.

But let’s continue John 1:35 and 36 says; “Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples and he looked upon Jesus as He walked, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God!” So this next day is what day? It’s the third day, because it is the next day after the second day. The third day or three thousand years after the creation of Adam (man), there was a man who wrote more prophesies concerning Jesus than any other prophet of the Bible. This man was the Psalmist King David!

.

Now King David had two followers (or disciples) they were Israel and Judah. Here’s what verse 35 and 36 would be saying prophetically; “On the third day or three thousand years into the history of man King David was standing with Israel and Judah (his two followers), looked one thousand years into the future and saw Jesus and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God!”

.

Let’s move to verse 43, which begins “The next day…” So what day would this be? That’s right the fourth day or 4,000 years after Adam (man) was created. And what happen then? Jesus came to earth and revealed himself to mankind and asked us to follow Him. Here is what the entire 43rd verse says, “The next day He purposed to go forth into Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow Me.”

.

Jesus came from heaven teaching that He is “the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”[24] Jesus was like a great ladder for man to reach into a newly opened heaven. In John 1:51 Jesus said; “Truly, truly, I say to you, you shall see the heavens opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

.

Jesus is the one who Jacob dreamed about in the 28th chapter of the book of Genesis 28:12. This is where it says; “And he had a dream and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the LORD stood above it… And (Jacob) said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”[25]

.

I don’t want to get to far off track but 4,000 years into the history of earthy man a heavenly man showed up saying, “He is the gate of heaven.” Let’s move forward to John 2:1 which says, “On the third day…” What a minute we were just talking about the fourth day, now we are on the third day? Yes, but it is the third day after the fourth day, so what day would that be? The third day after the fourth day would be the seventh day. So let’s read the entire verse; “And on the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; and Jesus also was invited, and His disciples, to the wedding.”[26]

.

So on this seventh day, or after six days had been completed there is a wedding. Well if we look at the end of the Book of Revelation we see a wedding in heaven. Revelation 19:7 records a wedding taking place in heaven between the Lamb of God and His bride the church. If this theme is not something you have heard or studied before, please refer to Ephesians 5:32, which refers to believers (the church) as the bride of Christ. Also note all the parables that reference a wedding or a king’s banquet. This theme of a wedding we will examine more fully later in the book but for now understand that there is a wedding for faithful believers (disciples) coming up quickly.

.

In the story it says, “Now there were six stone water pots.”[27] These stone pots are of course made from clay. This represent what God used to form man. Notice the six represents mankind’s age on the earth. “Jesus said to them, ‘Fill the waterpots with water.’ And they filled them up to the brim.”[28] Filling the waterpots to the brim symbolizes the fulfillment of the six thousand years of man on the earth.

.

“And He said to them, ‘Draw some out now, and take it to the headwaiter.’ And they took it to him. And when the headwaiter tasted the water which had become wine, and did not know where it came from.”[29] Drawing out some of the water symbolizes the gathering in of the saints prior to the coming of the Lord. This is confirmed in Revelation 7:13 which says; “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and from where have they come?”

.

The parallel ends with this last verse; “This beginning of His signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.”[30] These signs Jesus did at the wedding supper of the Lamb, manifesting His glory to His disciples that believed in Him. This is an amazing but hidden parallel to the six thousand year history of man leading to a wedding in heaven and the one thousand year reign of Jesus.

.

On the Third Day

.

One of the things that I don’t want you to miss is the theme of the Third Day. This third day represents the third day since the first coming of Jesus. Notice that even our calendars are divided by the time Before Christ (B.C.) and the year of our Lord (A.D.). So the third day represents the thousand year period beginning after 2,000 years have been completed for the first two days since the coming of Jesus. You saw an example of this in the story we just dissected in John. There was 4,000 years of mankind’s age leading up to the time of Christ and with the birth of Jesus came the dividing point in human history.

.

We have since had two prophetic days or two thousand years and we are on the precipice of the beginning of this “third day”. We can see this theme of on the third day throughout the bible, beginning with the day in which Jesus was raised from the dead. The prophet Hosea captured it this way; “Come, let us return to the LORD. He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day that we may live before Him.”[31]

.

This theme is woven throughout the story of Moses and the children of Israel at Mount Sinai. Mount Sinai is a prophetic picture of the Mountain of God in heaven. In this story from Exodus chapter 19, God the Father is represented by the LORD, Moses will represent Jesus, and the children of Israel will represent believers or Disciples of Christ. So that you have some background for the children of Israel coming out of Egypt is a type of getting saved.

.

God then speaks to the children of Israel; “You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles wings, and brought you to Myself.”[32] Here we see the whole reason Israel was saved and the whole reason we are saved, is so that we might be brought to God. Notice ago what the text says, “I bore you on eagles wings, and brought you to Myself.”

.

Then if we skip down to verse 10 we read; “The LORD also said to Moses, ‘Go to the People…’ This is exactly what the Father said to the Son, “Go to the People.” Here is the entire instruction, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments; and let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.”[33]

.

There is so much in here prophetically. First, “consecrate them today and tomorrow”, prophetically again speaks of two days or two thousand years. Then it says, “let them wash their garments” and this parallels the instructions to the church by Jesus found in Ephesians 5:26-27. Which reads as follows; “That He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless.”

.

I could really spend a lot of time here on this part about “let them wash their garments”. Here’s what it says in Revelation 19:7-8; “Let us rejoice and be glad and give glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready. And it was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” This theme of having our garments washed and cleaned for a wedding banquet is even found in the parables that Jesus spoke.

.

Matthew 22:1-14 is the parable of the Wedding Feast given by a king for his son. In the parable there is someone at the feast who does not have on the correct garment. Here is what happens when the king sees this person without the correct wedding attire. “But when the king came in to look over the dinner guest, he saw there a man not dressed in wedding clothes, and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and cast him into the outer darkness; in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”[34]

.

After the Father instructs the Son to “Go to them” and “let them wash their garment”; He then says, “And let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.”[35] Now this really holds a double prophetic meaning. First, remember it is written; “The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.”[36]

.

So this first prophetic meaning in that Jesus will come down and we will be lifted up to meet the Lord in the air and go to our heavenly banquet. This is where God reveals Himself in all His glory to His bride. But there is a second meaning which is that Jesus will come down after the seven year tribulation described throughout the book of Revelation and reveal Himself in the sight of all the nations to begin his millennial reign.

.

Are you beginning to see the prophetic parallels? Let’s continue in Exodus 19; “So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people, and they washed their garments. And he said to the people, ‘Be ready for the third day.”[37] Remember Moses represents Jesus. So Jesus went down from the mountain of God, from heaven to earth to the people. Jesus consecrated believers with His own blood and the believers washed their garment by the word of God. Then Jesus said, “Be ready for the third day.”

.

Jesus told his followers twenty-one times from His own mouth, “Watch”, “Watch and Pray”, “Be Watchful” and “He would have watched”. All these are directly from the mouth of Jesus and all of these are the same Greek word. The Greek word, Gregoreuo is a very strong verb that is a strong admonition to watch and be vigilant; to give something strict attention. All of these reference Jesus makes to watch all have to do with His impending return.

.

What Jesus does not say is, “don’t worry about the day.” Instead over and over again, Jesus says, “Watch, Be Watchful, don’t let this day come on you unaware.” This is exactly what the LORD commanded Moses to tell the children of Israel, “Be ready for the third day.”

.

“So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.”[38] On the third day is reference to after two days, after two thousand years.

.

Notice that the coming of the Lord is tied to a very loud trumpet sound along with thunder and lightning flashes. This exactly parallels what is written in Revelation; “Behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, ‘Come up here…’ And from the throne proceed flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder.”[39]

.

Amazing the parallels the Lord shall descend with a shout, what is the shout, “Come up here!” Jesus brings the people out of the camp (the world) to meet God on His holy mountain in heaven. There will be flashes of lightning and peals of thunder round about His throne in heaven, just as there were on Mount Sinai.

.

“And the LORD came down on Mount Sinia, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.”[40] This part where the LORD called Moses, then Moses went up, almost parallels the dead in Christ shall raise, then those who are alive in Christ shall be caught up. So amazing how a story from the Old Testament could hold so much prophetic meaning about the events which are about to take place. Only God could orchestrate the actions of man for his purposes.

.

Is it impossible to imagine that God has set up events to parallel future events. Is anything to difficult for the Lord? Look what the prophet Isaiah has to say about all this; “I am God, and there is no one like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, ‘My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man of My purpose from a far country. Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it.”[41]

.

God the Father and Jesus know both the beginning and the end. Everything has come into place just as it has been planned. The return although most say it can’t be predicted. I would make the argument that after His return we will easily see all the signs and how they pointed to a specific date. It is very easy to tell after the fact. Before only God knows, so the purpose of this writing is to be on our watch, to “Be on guard, that your hearts may not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day come on you suddenly like a trap; for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth. But keep on the alert at all times, praying in order that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”[42]

.

Decoding the a Parable with a Timeline

.

First, let’s define a parable and then we will decode one that holds a timeline. Most Bible believing people would say a parable is a story that is used to help make the things of God easier to understand. However, is this how Jesus used parables? In Matthew the 13th Chapter Jesus tells this parable of the sower, now Jesus was not revealing the deep things of farming. He did not tell them this secret of God in a farming parable so that it would be easier to understand. Instead, Jesus said, “He who has ears, let him hear.”[43]

.

“And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” And He answered and said to them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.”[44] So Jesus disciples ask, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” Jesus answers that there are two groups of people, one group is you, my disciples and “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.” There is a second group, those who are not my disciples, “but to them it has not been granted.”

.

Jesus goes on to say about this second group, “Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.”[45] Then Jesus said about the first group, His disciples, “For truly, I say to you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”[46]

.

So why did Jesus speak in parables? He told His disciples that there was a group of people that the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has not been granted. This group “while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.” Jesus spoke in parables to hide his message from those will not believe and to those who do believe, His believers, “it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.”

.

Let’s turn to the parable that has been called the parable of the good Samaritan. Jesus tells this parable when a certain lawyer asked Him, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”[47] Now this lawyer asked to test Jesus. So Jesus answers this man with his own question, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”[48] The lawyer answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”[49] Jesus told the lawyer, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”[50] In Jesus answer, Jesus quoted from Leviticus 18:5, but his lawyer wanted to justify himself so he asked Jesus one final question, “And who is my neighbor?”[51]

.

Jesus then replies to this lawyer and tells him a secret mystery of the kingdom of heaven. So “He who has ears, let him hear.”[52] Remember what was the first question this lawyer asked, he asked, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus did not answer that question, instead, He asked a question of the lawyer. Then the lawyer answered another question. This parable is really Jesus answering the first question for those who have ears to hear, and for those who do not it answers the second question of, “who is my neighbor?”

.

“Jesus replied and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went off leaving him half dead. And by chance a certain priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And like wise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, and came to him, and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you.”[53]

.

So Jesus says to this lawyer who does not have ears to hear, “Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers hands?”[54] But to those who do have ears to hear, let me ask, “What shall you do to inherit eternal life?” Let’s start decoding the mystery of inheriting eternal life.

.

The Mystery of Inheriting Eternal Life

.

First, the parable speaks of a man who was going down. It is all down hill from Jerusalem to Jericho. But let’s look at the prophetic meaning of Jerusalem and Jericho. Jerusalem represents the home of God, His hometown, and it is the place where God and man dwell together. Jericho has a much different meaning, this is the city in which the walls fell down, so the prophetic meaning of this is a fallen place. So far we have a man who is going down hill, from dwelling in the place of God to now dwelling in a fallen world. The original Greek text reveals that this man went down from Jerusalem ‘into’ Jericho.

.

Next, this man fell among robbers who stripped him and beat him and went off leaving him half dead. Who is this certain man who dwelt with God before going down [hill] ‘into’ a fallen would who fell into the hands of a thief leaving him naked and wounded before leaving him half dead? I say to you it is man (Adam in the Hebrew). Adam dwelt with God in the garden of Eden. The serpent who comes to steal kill and destroy, left Adam naked, after he had been clothed with the glory of God. Adam was appointed mortal sorrow, we have learned that the mortal sorrow was death. But I say to you that it was a spiritual death first. Remember the Lord God had said, “In the day that you eat from it you shall surely die.”[55] This wound that left Adam half dead was sin.

.

Next, a priest was ‘going down’ on the same road ‘into’ the same fallen city, and when this priest saw this man, he passed by on the other side. So who is this priest who is in this same fallen state? We get an answer from the writer of Hebrews; “Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law)… (for the Law made nothing perfect)… those high priests, [who] offered up sacrifices, first for His own sins, and then for the sins of the people.”[56] This priest is who we received the law from, but the Bible says the law made nothing perfect, even the priest who was offering sacrifices required by the law did so first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. So why would this priest walk right by man (Adam), because through him we received the law and the law made nothing perfect, so the priest which had the law was unable to help fallen man.

.

Next, a Levite was ‘going down’ on the same road ‘into’ the same fallen city, and when this Levite saw this man, he passed by on the other side. So who is this Levite who is in this same fallen state and is also unable to help ‘fallen man’? Again if we turn to the book of Hebrews we get our answer. First, know that it was the Levites who were appointed to offer sacrifices that “can never by the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near (to God)… But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.”[57] So the reason this Levite who is in the same fallen state walks right by man (Adam), is because it is impossible for the sacrifices that this Levite offers up year after year to take away sins.

.

Next, a Samaritan who was traveling came down to where the man was and seeing man in his fallen state, naked, wounded, and half dead. This Samaritan had compassion for the man so He went to the man. The Samaritan bandaged the man’s mortal wounds, pouring in oil and wine on those mortal wounds. Let’s start decoding who this Samaritan is before we go further.

.

First, I need to ask what is a Samaritan. A Samaritan is a half-breed Jew, a people of mixed race. In society today someone of mixed race is called mulatto. Our Samaritan in this parable is a man who was born into the only country in the world where you take on the nationality of the mother. Israel is the only country in the world where the baby takes on the nationality of the mother. So our Samaritan has a mother who is Jewish and was Fathered by the Holy Spirit. Our Samaritan had to travel to where fallen man was, He traveled and came down, seeing our fallen state and having compassion on us. This word in the Greek for compassion, Splagchnizomai, is found 12 times in our New Testament, 10 of them used to describe Jesus and the compassion He felt for the people and 2 in parables used to show His compassion as our God.

.

Our Samaritan Jesus then bandaged the wounds of man by pouring into our wounds oil and wine. As a note these are not found in normal medical supplies. Oil represents the Holy Spirit throughout the Bible while wine is representative of blood and in this case the blood of our Jesus.

.

Next, Jesus puts us on His beast and brought us to an inn and took care of us. The beast represent a sacrifice, His sacrifice, which is what Jesus did. The Bible says it this way, “And when you were dead in your transgressions… He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt… and taken it out of the way having nailed it to the cross.”[58] Jesus purchased our salvation with His own blood and then poured His Spirit into us.

.

Jesus then took us to an inn, the Greek word here is, Pandocheion, which is a compound of two Greek words, Pas, which means all or every and Dechomai, which means to receive, to accept or take. So, Pandocheion is a place where all are received or all are accepted, the context here it is defined as a public-lodging place or an inn but it really represents His church. So Jesus brought us to His church and then He took care of us.

.

Next, the parable reveals that our Samaritan was leaving and He took out two denarii and gave them to the keeper of the church and said, “Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you.” The denarii represents two days wages. Both the Psalmist and Peter wrote that with the Lord a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day. Our Samaritan says that when He returns He will repay and this is confirmed because Jesus said, “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me.”[59]

.

I want to look at one other Greek word it is the word used to describe how the Samaritan ‘took care’ of the man, it is the Greek word, Epimeleomai, it means to take care of but it appears only 3 times in the New Testament, twice in this parable. The second time this word occurs is when the Samaritan commands the ‘inn keeper’ to take care of the man. The last time this word occurs is in reference to the, Ekklesia of God. In Paul’s Letter to Timothy it says, “But if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?”[60] This further confirms that the Good Samaritan brought the man to His church.

.

The Lord answers the question of how one receives eternal life with His encoded parable showing off His exceeding wisdom. And within His encoded parable we learn that the Lord will return in two thousand years. This is what Jesus is saying through the parable, “I will return in two prophetic days or two thousand years.”

.

The Bible both hints and alludes to the fact the man has been given six thousand years. Our Lord Jesus is returning and will rule over a 1000-year period of rest. The prophet Zechariah wrote these words, “And the LORD will be king over all the earth; in that day the LORD will be the only one, and His name the only one.”[61]

.

This millennial reign of our Lord is set to begin shortly. Prior to the beginning of this reign on earth there is a catching away of His faithful saints. In the next chapter we are going to examine seven parables and seven letters that Jesus gives to exhort His followers not to be left behind.
